Amir al mu'mineen tells Haya chief to be soft with muslims

RIYADH: The newly appointed general president of the Commission for Promotion of Virtue and Prevention of Vice (Haia) Sheikh Abdullatif Al-Asheikh said Thursday that Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Abdullah had ordered him and his fellow colleagues to be lenient when dealing with people and to show good will and respect to them.

“The king gave me these clear orders when I went to greet him after my appointment,” he told local daily Al-Eqtisadiah in an interview.

Al-Asheikh said King Abdullah advised him to always have a fear of Allah when tackling religious issues concerning the public and to treat citizens and foreigners with respect and leniency.

The king also advised me to protect the religion and religious rituals according to the Holy Qur’an and Sunnah. He advised me to follow the example of Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) of dealing with his followers through advice and guidance,” he said.

Al-Asheikh said King Abdullah stressed the tolerant and moderate nature of Islam and asked him to spread the correct understanding of Islam among people.

The king underlined the importance of the promotion of virtue and prevention of vice and said it has always been a feature characterizing Saudi society since the time of King Abdul Aziz, said Al-Asheikh.

Al-Asheikh added he was proud to be a graduate of Minister of Defense and Aviation Prince Salman’s school of thought when he worked with him while the prince was Riyadh governor.

“I benefited a lot from Prince Salman’s wisdom, work ethic and subtle treatment of people,” he said.

The new chief considered citizens and expatriates as partners of the Haia and said the commission would give its utmost attention to complaints and information from people all over the Kingdom. He also welcomed their suggestions to further improve the work of the Haia.

Al-Asheikh invited reporters to come to the Haia’s offices to carry out a first hand assessment of its activities and help form partnerships in reporting facts and spreading awareness among society.

“My door is always open to journalists,” he said asking people to pray for his success.

The first major decision Al-Asheikh took was to fire part-time Haia employees who had been criticized by the public.

I'm glad he sacked the old guy for this new moderate man.
Maybe it's because the other one was opposed to mixed gender KAUST.

Good job Abdullah.

Moved by the recent benevolent gestures of support by King Abdullah for Saudis and non-Saudis alike, an Egyptian expatriate, Syed M. Salem – who works as the branch manager of a supermarket in Al-Khobar – penned an endearing poem praising the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques for his care and love for his people and expatriates.
“The King has a good heart for both Saudis and non-Saudis, and because of this I was inspired to write a poem and send it to him,” said Salem who has been working in the Kingdom for the last 37 years.
The theme of Salem’s poem is King Abdullah as the “leader of Arab and Muslim countries”. In his poem, Salem said the King speaks less but accomplishes more; supports needy citizens; advocates the freedom of the press and supports journalists; and is a leader who seeks to realize the dream of his people and society.
King Abdullah recently sent a message to Salem thanking him for the poem.
“I am thankful for the leaders of this country, like King Abdullah, for caring for and hosting foreign workers like me,” said Salem who arrived in the Eastern Province in 1975 when he was just 28 years old to work as civil engineer. He said his first job was with the Royal Commission in Jubail before moving to the Saudi Marketing Company, owner of Farm Supermarket, where he has stayed and worked for 20 years as the branch manager.
He has two children, a son and a daughter, who were both born in Saudi Arabia. “My son, who is an engineer, currently works with a Saudi engineering consultancy company.” His daughter, who is also an engineer, works in Egypt.
During the more than three decades he has lived in Saudi Arabia, Salem has cultivated a strong connection with Saudis and citizens and expatriates. “I have received many awards and commendations from the government, expatriate community groups, foreign organizations and military establishments, including the various US commands during the Desert Shield and Desert Storms,” Salem said. “I am humbled by these recognitions.
“But above all, I am grateful to the leaders of this great country for allowing many expatriate workers like me to avail the opportunities to earn a living for their family. For King Abdullah, I pray that Allah awards him a long life to serve all groups of people in this country.”

mashallah wa tabarakallah ya Salem! He has shown us the compassion the emir has for nonsaudis. may allah bless him.
