We can't really know for sure what THE oldest profession is, we can only guess---and most people have guessed prostitution. What's for sure is that it existed before currency, which you earlier claimed it hadn't.Im not saying its not old, I'm just telling you, its not the oldest form of profession.
to your next point, you assume that making it legal will mean that it will no longer flourish in the back alley's. This assumption is incorrect. Prostitution is legal in Nevada, it is regulated an all. but there are for more women working as prostitutes in the streets of Las Vegas than in the brothels which are government regulated.
AS for your second point, making it legal will not eliminate the black market for sex, but it will diminish it by a substantial amount. Why? Because a lot of average people take part in prostitution and they'd probably prefer to do it in a safe, regulated environment without the threat of arrest and prosecution hanging over their heads. Also, prostitution is legal only in some parts of Nevada, mostly rural counties looking for tourist dollars, and it remains illegal in Los Vegas. Obviously prostitution is going to exist in Los Vegas because it is the "city of sin" after all and there is large demand for sex without having to travel hundreds of miles away.
