The Transitional Federal Government (TFG) of Somalia has issued a law that forces anyone who is unlawfully living in property belonging to the previous government of former leader Siad Barre to evacuate the building by February 5, Radio Garowe reports.
A meeting at the Presidential palace in Mogadishu in which President Sharif Sheikh Ahmed and Prime Minister Abdiweli Mohamed Gaas and other officials met, President Sharif released a statement in which it states anyone who is living in government buildings to evacuate by February 5 2012.
It also states that anyone who had been living in the government compounds throughout the years of anarchy and succeeds in complying with the evacuation date will be absolved of any crimes. On the other hand it also states that if the person or persons do not comply with the evacuation date they will be forced out of the compound and will be charged for the rent fees of the compound since the fall of Siad Barre’s regime.
After the fall of Siad Barre’s regime in 1991 the civil war in Mogadishu led many residents fleeing the city leaving government compounds and their homes in the hands of militia.
