The security is quite amazing, really & troops & intelligence agents flood the city. Lol, a plain clothed intelligence guy or woman will board the bus & start attacking the government & championing Al Shabab in an attempt to see who will agree with him. Once the person that agreed with him exits the bus, he will be snatched by the nabad sugida. This & public cooperation with the security forces is what has severely devestated Al Shabab & overwhelmed its ability to carry assassinations, IEDs and suicide bombings.

As far as returning properties are concerned, yes it's taking place but it's case by case & it's done thru the city hall

For every kilometer, AS were kicked out, revenues went down 10%. Business is hard to come by. Shiid the other day, a client said he would go it alone. Plus the Tuugo Federated Goons are feeling all cocky.

Alas, margins were great when the enemy was 500 meters from Villa Somalia. Niccas were throwing contracts to skinnies like me to do jobs for them, write up those nice reports and make them look good. Now niccas feel its safe enough for them to go and set up shop independently in MoG. Focking Turks started the trend.

Indeed the key to Mogadishu's security is all the different security agencies working together side by side.

That is really great to hear. Going to Puntland in March and want to visit Mogadishu for a week or so. What's the best Hotel in the city to stay at?

And what areas of the city should I be staying away from?

How about Public Government buildings? Are people complying with the order to evacuate them? I've heard stories of Former Government ministres with huge offices/conference rooms turned into mansions or apartment complexes.

Stay away from Dayniile. The rest of the city is open for business. Regarding hotels, I personally like Hotel Naaso Hablood 2 because it's at the center of the city & they have nice rooms. For food, I will recommend The Village at Hodan. They have the best food in town & it's all outdoors!

Sharif gave a 12 day notice to evacuate all government buildings. Let's see what comes out of it, but it's save to say that more than half of those buildings have been abandoned long ago.

Murax, an uncle of mine came back from Mogadishu yesterday and I was looking at his pics. He was video taping all over including across from the parliament building and Ugandans are staring from a truck parked on side entrance, from Maka Al Mukarama road, and one time when he was pointing at Ali Mahdi's old hotel the driver can be heard joking with him i bet Ali Mahdi regrets going against the old government. I'll upload the videos when I get a chance, it was on his Iphone. The entire place basically looks like a Hurricane went through sadly but the people seemed jolly and carefree and the society is being retaught law and order again.

Also, another of my older brother is also coming back from a trip to Africa that included Mogadishu and I will tag myself on his facebook pics so you can see. Honestly Mogadishu is not totally safe, but from both of them tribal fight is over and the dollar is king and the one who has it is emporer.

I took close to 700 pictures & dozen videos of Mogadishu. This was actually the only scene I taped from indoors because really the view from the bar was simply unforgettable.

Btw, what parts of the city did your cousins visit & what areas did they take pictures from? There are parts of Mogadishu that have not been affected by the war at all & that are booming. The problem is Mogadishu has been at war for 20 years & the first thing you notice is the ruins & wounds of war; on the other hand there certain sections like Madina, Waabari, Suuqa Bakaaraha area, Suuq Bacaad, KM 4 & other parts that are really developed & booming. Some of the buildings in Madina close to the airport road & KM 4 start anywhere from 500 grand USD to a Mil. So there's different sides to the city. I personally focused on the positive side of things & the ones that have seen the pictures I took like Shirib, Greenday & others could not believe that some of the pictures were from Xamar. So both sides need to be shown.

As far as security & law & order are concerned, well we used to eat outdoors at the Bars & some MPs used to come to our house without any armed escorts. I met Ciyaal-Warta in Xamarweyn & he said this is the best peace we have known in Mogadishu since the collapse of the regime. That is coming from someone that has seen it through all.

Answering your inquiry about Bar Fiat, renovations are not as active as in other parts of the city but people have already moved back in.
