A conversation between
a Somali kid and a Somali dad
Father: So let me ask you this, when your done high school, what do you want to become?
Son: Aabo im gonna become an environmentalist.
Father: Yaah! an environmentalist? Arent those the ones that work with the trees and the wind? Thats not a job. In that case why dont I take you back home so you can fight for my subclan and perhaps waste your life like that instead of running after trees and winds like a man possessed. After all your craziness now you come to me with this?
Son: Being an environmentalist is a very important career path. We have to have people to care about mother Earth aabo.
Father: Alla maxaan nacas dhalayeey, yaah! Get outa here you dummy. I wanted you to buy me a big house and Land Cruiser. I wanted you to send money to your relatives in Somalia every month. How are you gonna able to do that with this crazy career path of chasing winds and looking after a tree. War ma Allah la tartameysaa xawayaanyahoow. War tani ma i sugeysey. Ninkii nooloow maxaa aragti kuu dhiman.
Son: Aaabo thats backward thinking, this a high demand job, it makes good money.
Father: Forget about this environmental business, go finish school and make me some money.
Son: Ok aabo, lets get there first.
The End!
