SUUQA buu galay

Postby sexy-kitten » Tue Mar 13, 2012 10:11 pm

How could someone LITERALLY be in the suuq? What exactly do parents mean when they say "heblaayo gabadheeda baa suuqa gashay" or "walaalkeed suuqa buu ku jira".... WTF? Can someone explain that for me?    what attitude must one display in order to be "in the shop."

It means ur a bad girl/boy.

Reminds me of that somali saying ‘im from the magaalo/city’ its meant to be offensive. :? With sayings like this, u would think Somalis are scared of progress and want to hold their nomadic roots.

Understood. Now what makes one bad? I'm not saying this from a religious prescriptive, I wanna know from a Somali parent's point of view. Is it because they 1. don't go to school, 2. smoke, 3. drink, 4. sex fiend, 5. no shaqo a combination of 1-5...what exactly?

Sexy,
Human beings including somalis (if we are worth that label) have a flock mentality. We tend to be confined to an invisible circle called family and friends. When one leaves that circle we assume that the person is out into the market for the taking. Hence, the term suuqa. The market is unknown place where vicious activities happen.

It's old Somali to mean a young person, usually someone's child has become morally corrupt and indecent. Will not listen to grown ups, is out of control, breaking all the rules, running with the wrong crowd, messing around, essentially qof "halaabay" Suuqa is where one would go for vice and all things not approved of. It depends on the context it's used.

Kitten are you familiar with the term "ciyaal suuq"? ciyaal suuq would be the one oo suuqa galay. Its basically someone who does one or the other of what you have mentioned, or perhaps does all.

Couple things that can initiate you to be part off it, can range from a lot of things. Once your family titles you as that, just know shit is like a wild fire and spreads rapidly, Its never a good outlook.

LOL I get it, do you guys believe that those "oo suuqa galeen" are deep down nice people or have a good heart? The Somali community is butchering their name?

For instance, I have friends on both sides of the fence. I just wanted to put myself in a parent/oldhead's shoes.

Menace I know what it means I just asked to get a legit answer as to what makes a person suuqa galo. Btw,war haloow ha ila sheekeysan on Somalinet sxb. Sheekadaada banaankeey taala. You chose beating grandpa's ass over getting ass in a city oo ku taalo a different country. Waad ceeboobday abti ee iigooy.

Rabshoole yea, it all begins with the family. LOL

Term for Kids in somalia who used to sniff glue...in the suuq. Nowadays, used for alkis, druggies, and whores. Whether they deserve it or not, depends on how bad your parents want you to stay away from them. lol.

My view is "deep down nice" doesn't really matter. It's either apparent or it aint. It just matters on what they do. If they know what they do is wrong, then it's up to them to change. I'm not gunna give someone a pat on the back for knowing something is wrong, yet won't refrain from doing it.

It all depends on the individual, but mainly dadka ciyaalsuuq loo baxshay deserve it one way or another, The bright side about it, some people eventually grow out of, its never a parmenant thing.

Alphanumeric, that's you. People aren't always as bad as people gossip about.

Rabshoole ur right, its their own fault for being labeled as such and I agree that it's never a permanent thing. That's what people don't understand. I have friends who've made those mistakes but learned from them.
