The faculty of peace and conflict resolution

A farewell party was thrown in honor of 30 graduates who recently graduated from the faculty of peace and conflict resolution in hotel Mansor. Among those attending the ceremony were politicians academics and other society speaking the occasion and Dean of faculty of peace and
conflict resolution Mr Adam, Haj i Ali Ahmed said that the 30 graduates were the third batch to graduate since the inauguration of the faculty thus bringing the total to 106 graduates. Mr. Adam said that the faculty plans to introduce a master degree course for the fourth batch of graduates Mr Adam reiterate, the importance of peace and conflict students in today’s world.

The Dean said that it is a form of social science that identifies and analyses violent and non violent behaviors as well as the structural mechanisms attending social conflicts with a view towards understanding those processes which lead to a more desirable human conditions and efforts aiming at the prevention, de-escalation, and solution of conflicts by peaceful means, thereby seeking ‘victory’ for
all parties involved in the conflict. The chairman of the KULMIYE Hon Muse Bihi who is also has degree in peace and conflict resolution and was also among the second batch of graduates , speaking to the graduates he said was honored to be among his companions, Mr Bihi spoke of the role the media should play in peace and conflict resolution so as to promote peace and harmony.

He added that peace studies allows one to examine the causes and prevention of war as well as the nature of violence, including social oppression, discrimination and marginalization. Through peace studies one can also learn peace making strategies to overcome persecution and transform society to attain a more just and equitable international community. Mr Bihi urged journalist to refrain from negative reporting and that they should play an important role in promoting peace and understanding resolving. The chancellor of Hargeisa University Mr Muse Adan told the graduates to use the knowledge in the embitterment of the society he added ten years ago since then many graduates have graduated from the University. The assistant minister of education and higher learning Hon Ali Jibril Hamud said standard of education have improved in the last few years.

The faculty of peace and conflict resolution since 2008 -2011 has been supported by USAID through Eastern Mon University and up till now it is partner with the Eastern Mon Un, the Institute got human resource capacity building from UN-Mandated University for peace in Costa Rica and Partner with it now.
There will be new initiatives for the institute including but not limited to.
1- There will short course for capacity building in the summer
2- The edition of the Journal of Peace and Development will be
published and papers are open for those who can write academic papers.
Soon will be published for the papers.
3- Public lectures and debate about the peace, conflict and other
related issue will be published.
4- Upgrading the institute to Master MA level is planned in this year
