On the real though, don't sit in your mother's house 24/7 then complain Shamso/Nasra/Amina's getting married before you...even though she used to do such and such with so and so behind the middle school. You're not going to meet a man on your way to or from your bathroom. Get out there see and be seen.

That will defeat the whole men and women stay away from each other and lower ur gaze.

why somalis do not have a club or community thing so their young adults can meet each other with parents' supervision/knowledge?

i found young professional women hard to find like minded. community need to step in and do something.
the masjids have started a matching drive in their respective areas. it has never amounted to anything big compared to fund raising, construction, schooling, and other fundamental aspects of dacwah. but it is being recognized and it has become a preferable method for a lot of couples. thumps up to some sister, who in their desire to stay clean and pure have taken the extra step of travelling abroad to get hooked. mashallah

How is travelling abroad better than finding someone who was raised in the same city as you? What makes it any different?

well i understand no grantee in anything but i guess parents need to step in at young age and educate about marriage and responsibilities and what comes with. just education education and in the end is up to individuals that involved.

im not sure tho, there is right step by step. what some works for not necessarily works for others. my father told me once his dad told him to not marry!! i was like 8. i wasnt interested to ask why his father would tell him that!! in the end he went his way and married at age of 22

Seems to me parents just want their kids married, and ASAP. With Somalis, it wouldn't be difficult I think. Once you tell your mom or dad you'd like to get married, a few phone calls can be made and within a week you'll be setup for a meeting. I think that's how I'll do it. At least then it will be somewhat personal and informal.

sometimes we underestimate how far simple networking can and will take us. not the type where you post your buttnaked pics and some weirdo youtubes it. but legitimate networking of old buddies, friends, and family members close and abroad. travelling when time permits is also nice. the broader your base and connection, the more you are exposed, and the more your exposed the better. our networks have become so convoluted, people are marrying their first cousins. expand a bit and you never know what might find.

Alpha, i didnt say they are better. these muslims girls didnt give up hope or listened to naysayers, but went on their way to find that right man even if it took em abroad.

Ehy I don't think I would.be down with the whole parent supervision lool I know that's how its suppose to go but living in the west I learned things on my own I mean parents don't even discuss such issues such as dating let alone sex so Ive learned to keep my private life private until I meet that farax whom is my ideal farax or close to it lol

If someone is looking around on their own, I don't see how they could possible exhaust all sources in the city they live in, before looking abroad. Usually when someone finds someone else abroad, it's due to a family connection.

when it comes to marriage and settling down most guys run for the
"Good girls".

More religious women also tend to get married earlier.

definitely, not easy subject to talk with your parents but it needs to speak of it as early age. we talked and had discussion when i was younger and i had funny things ive said over the years but now i dont feel comfy to talk with my dad. he always like to bring it and what i want to do and who i would marry and what is my test bla bla. he likes to tease me about it.
