Most regulars on this site are long standing members and everyone seems to know each other. Annoyingly, many topics are highly personalised and people just generally are very unwelcoming to new members or they just assume your an alt. Pretty depressing considering this site is 12 years + and still a small community. I think this site has great potential as a platform for dialogue and lively debate among the Somali diaspora but I believe there is something intrinsic about this community that hinders this process. I think there is a need for some structural changes that need to made in the style and management of this site.

I would like to suggest this site be more open to non-Somali members. I've seen a few Ethiopians, whites come here and they've been grilled and called every name under the sun, which was very pathetic imo. I used to frequent PDF (Pakistan Defence Forum) and the diversity there is amazing, Indians, Chinese, Iranians, Arabs, Russians, Turks, a couple Africans you name it, which makes the place very lively and interesting. I don't see why Somalinet can't be like that, unless this is some kind of cult?

Of course, I don't expect to be taken seriously. I just came yesterday, what do I know right? But there's my two cents anyway.
i feel your pain bro, ive been active for a while (way more than two years straight) but i get put off a lot. i tried to get along with the people here but it seems they are a closed community indeed. though i have no respect for trolls, i likewise have no respect for snobby forumers who only communicate with their inner circle, despite this place being an open platform for everyone, worst kind are them folks from the americas, its like they live in a different world  . for instance, if i were to post a thread about a highly discussed issue, i would probably get 3 or 4 contributors tops, who i'd have to fully engage with anyway just to get them into a conversation  but someone else would probably get 5x the views and comments from others. i believe you can only get far if you do two things, if you hail from certain clans which have a higher representation on this website, or if you show some kind of talented writing abilities and knowledge. its like this place is a popularity contest. this is why ive just stayed put in the banadir section, i said fuck the general discussions, my topics always getting unnoticed there  . so yeah, Ive been contemplating leaving this shithole for good, and it seems likely to happen soon.
