Alshabaab has the best human resource probably in the world, they claim to provide something no one else can....Jennah! eternal paradise. To an unstable ignorant person, he or she will jump to that offer. Somalia has no shortage of people with mental problems.
What can alshabaabs adversary provide? Money? land? That's not as appealing.

Or as Dr, Yalaxow will say gang banged by 72 male virgins
I watched a documentary from Israel and suicide bombing. It was about failed endeavours.
In one of them the kid who wanted to blow himself on the bus suddenly remembered that his favourite team, Man United and his hero David Beckam were about to play another team, so he aborted.
Another detonated his bomb but it only injured him. He was taken to a military hospital in coma. At his bedside was an Israeli agent to watch him. When the guy woke up from coma he saw a tidy place with white colours and nurses in white. He thought that this was the promised paradise and started thanking God whereupon the agent asked him in arabic who are you and where are you? he replied paradise.
This could have been fiction by the way.

it's not about alshabab or others that brainwash's afford or skills. it's those who just gave up in their lives and regretting. they dont want or have skills/man power to take the long way to fix the damage they made. they want fast fix that they can dream to be in better place and not the world of full of struggles and judgmental people. it's just one last resort to mess up even more and end it.

so that twitter account is made by someone outside Somalia, but you do know Somalia has internet right. A person in Somalia could setup a twitter account.
followers on twitter doesn't mean they're supporters.

Shirib, what person in Somalia do you know uses twitter? I can speak for myself when I say I only know 2 people in Africa who use twitter and THEY'RE AMERICANS!

They may have FB, but twitter is still a big task for them over there. The internet connection sucks and they'll get bombarded with 3,00 tweets within a span of 10 minutes. They don't like doing shit like that.
Followers can mean supporters OR people who are fixated with their news. Tbh, I can read about Al-kharaab elsewhere, I don't need to follow them on twitter where they spew hate VIRTUALLY too.

Feel me?

You're kidding me
Those who are comparing Al Shabab to Hizbullah: We all remember what Israel did to Lebanon a few years ago, if your country is being attacked then yes it makes sense to fight back, you are protecting your country and your people. Lakin Al Shabab are killing students and fellow Somalis who are unarmed and most certainly not dangerous. They are killing mothers and children, fathers and brothers. Can you imagine the sales skills it takes to convince someone that that is okay? To go to a graduation of medical students and blow yourself up? That is some serious skill.

bv, they have a very large number of admirers. However, their sympathizers outside of Somalia stay low for fear of retribution. This group is illegal in most countries after all. Admirers and others alike, it is very hard for Somalis to discuss about this secretive group in public for all the obvious reasons.
sexy-k, not only that, many more people access the direct link instead because they don't want to be labeled as shabab followers.

I for one would like to speak to an Al Shabab supporter, just to understand where they're coming from.

They are the same.

Their view has been shared in this thread.

I'm not sure if Hizbullah was mentioned, but Hamas was. Hizbullah is Shia', so al-Shabaab probably wouldn't see anything wrong with killing them either.
