I think that is a problem.

It isn't the unwillingness to assimilate, but the inability that's resulted in this "foreigner isolation", I think.

Aasli, I have cousins... even friends who have Somali parents yet they don't even look CLOSE to Somali. Some look Indian(dark with soft ass hair) some look mixed, & some are just too damn pale to look Somali. I'm sure you meant if both your parents are Somali.... just leave the "look" part.

My own cousin is soo freakin light, that when she highlighted her hair, she looked like an Americanized Arab lool. Not all Somalis look like Somalis. I know the look you're talking about. The caramel complexion, narrow nose with long & thin hair.

The fact that people seriously discuss whether or not your children can claim to be partially Somali if they're biracial is a bit silly. Also, I've met many older Somalis who even went as far to state that if a Somali marries a non-Somali, he/she should no longer claim to be Somali.

It's all ridiculous. Marry who you want; claim what you want.

I'm sorry but have any of you guys even seen half Somali people? They look nothing like us! They always come out looking like the non Somali parent.

Somali genes are recessive, if a Somali guy has kids with say a Japanese women those kids will look Japanese. And there's no way in hell I'm considering those kids Somali. They will be half Somali but not Somali.

From what I've seen, I think Somalis handled interracial marriages far better than many others.

you would think the more we stay in the West, the less important 'somaliness' and 'qabiil' becomes since i haven't seen a lot of people going back in droves

BTW, you don't need to prove that. Most of us know where you're coming from.. I also kinda understand what she's talking about. Aasli is talking about the common "somali" look. I know for a fact there are people who don't even look like us but are 100% Somali too.
