Ideas on helping rebuild Somalia.

Postby TeAmo » Wed May 30, 2012 10:48 am

Guys I really want to do something to help the people back home and help rebuild Somalia, even if it's voluntary work. Have any of you guys thought of this? If so what are your ideas? And how do you guys think I should go about it? I want to start an organisation or something that caters to children and women because they've been affected by the conflict the most. Or even work for organisation there but I don't know how I would contact them.

Thousands before you had same or similar ideas like yours. There's no need to re-invent the wheel. Instead, what hasn't been done is an investigation (not criminal; journalistic, personal, etc) into what leads to the failure of those who embark on those ideas, and what can be done to correct the failure.

Understanding what has worked and what has not is the most important issue.Which are the top ten wealthiest/most developed countries, not counting tax havens and countries whose export consist of atleast 50-80% of natural resources.

mondey
try a bottom up approach, create basic institutions.
have a police forces, an honest one that helps the people.
create schools, educate the people on the mistakes og the past.
create farms, teach people how to farm so they can survive.
all this can be done, but as long as you have those who benefit from the misfortune of the people/nation inside the country nothing will ever work, root out all those who want to keep the country weak, politicians and terrorists alike should be routed but it's easier said than done.

Power corrupts most men regardless of their religion
having checks and balances stops people from lying, being corrupt and doing whatever they want.

Turkey's economy tremendously improved since the current Islamist government took power. That's due to honesty on part of the Islamists. Corruption, mismanagement, nepotism, etc that led to poor economy was the hallmark of those before them, the secularists.
