Here is a great yemeni sheikh who is a sharif (descendant of the prophet) and also a sufi
Abokor, why do Sufis kiss the hand of a sharif?
Sharif's carry the blood of the single most greatest creation in universal if not complete history, the blood of a man who was more important to Allah and loved more then anything.

Sharif's go through alot of tribulations, back in the past in the 700's they used to give tax's to the sharif in hijaz just to make sure they are doing ok, they have a stronger and better understanding of the qur'an and sunnah and have an insight, thats if they try to , some sharif's today don't bother and they end up like a normal average muslim, but if they put effort in trying to gain knowledge they will gain alot more then others due to their direct ancestry to the prophet.

Where do you get this from? I wanna know more about what is significant about the descendant of the prophet

Shirib, Riyadh salihiin is a book of usul and fiqh, this doesn't have to do with Sufisim.

I know, but most of the Somali suufi's i've seen are big time followers of the shafici madhab, while the itixaad etc. seem to not follow or care for the different madhabs.

like u said suufi's aren't really a different sect, they follow the four madhabs for everything

Executive, sufi's truly believe that the greatest vehicle to Allah is the love, adoration, and adherence to way of Nabi Muhammad scw. The way to get the Love of Nabi Muhammad is to follow is sunnah, and to love ahlul bayt. To love what comes from someone is to love the someone. This then causes them to see loving and respect ahlul bayt as a simple extention of loving nabi Muhammad scw, and Allah swt

PO, what do you think of people making tawwaf around graves, and sajdah at or near graves? This, among some beliefs I've come across from different people who've attached themselves to Sufism is what makes me wary about it all.

Suffi is not a sect, sufi people are part of the 4 school of thoughts. Even the most extreme wahabi sheikhs has labelled suffi followers as Muslim following the sunni madhabs. Most suffi though follow the maliki and shafi school of thought.

KingMj just go back to the beginning and you will get your questions answered.
~Sufis follow Ahmediya madhab and some follow Shafici madhab to the letter. But if you are a Sufi 100% not Hanafi or Malaki that is for sure. But Sufi is a sect just like Salafi is a sect.
You don't make any sense at all bro.
Bro so about these differing names my questions is what if someone asks a salafi or a sufi what are you? Would they say sunni, or just say salafi or sufi?

These are matteRs pertaining to fiqh. This is the type of things that I want to clear up, every muslim is bound to the shariah (whichever particular school they follow). As for something as simple as praying salat on a grave site there is difference of opinion depending which school you follow. We must make distinctions of the roles of shariah (out-ward adherence), Aqidah (theology), and Tassawaf/sufisim (inward-adherance), so that we may better understand our religion. Some two same sufi brothers may have different fiqh though being in the same tariqa.

The issue of making tawwaf around a grave in order gain benefit from the deceased is an issue of fiqh, and not aqeedah?

How can one gain any benefit/baraka from an action that is legislated haram? So the first place to start is most certaintly in the fiqh books, isn't that so?

I see.

And what of beliefs pertaining to Allah? His attributes, characteristics, descriptions, location, etc? Are there any differences there between the tariqahs?

Or would it be easier for you to direct me to a site you rely on? I seem to be stumbling on a whole lot right now.

Those are question pertaining to Aqida. I'm tryong to get you to understand that Sufisim is a systematic method to purify ones heart and reach closer to Allah. Understand this and hold this as a seperate category from fiqh and aqida. Most tariqas are very orthodox sunnis, four madhabs for fiqh, and ashari or matrudi for aqida. These are the orthdox stances. Next understand one does not have to be a sufi either to follow the madhabs of fiqh and aqida. Once you understand this you will not so easily associate maters of action, beliefs, or worship with "sufis".
