They were branded as heretics.
Who and what are you talking about? Until you provide actual evidence this will remain a false claim.
Yes, for many years Sharia meant rule of law, which is very importnat. However this was surpassed by rule of law and laws based on reson in Europe in the 17th century. Let me say that I'm not suprised that you don't want to blame it on the Sharia...
This is your opinion and not facts, one cant surpass divine law. Human law or law based on reson is flawed. Its inherently wrong. Just look at the juridical system in Europe/Usa elsewhere. Its joke and the people living in it will tell you that.

Im not suprised that you dont want to accept the Ottoman Caliphate, Saudiarabia, Aceh province, Sudan, as implementing Sharia, because that would imply failure. If the Hanbali scholars decided, they'd see Saudi Arabia as close to the Sharia as it can be...why is it Saudi Arabia, which is close to the Hanbali school is failing miserably...and their only luck is oil. Why is that countries that are more FAR more closer to the Sharia , than say the Secular world whose laws are blasphemous, are failing comparatively.
You are just playing with semantics, but lets for argument sake say I will accept Ottoman Caliphate and Saudiarabia as Sharia Law ruled then on what have Sharia failed? Be specifik and please answer, Up to this point we have argued in a circle because you are avoiding it.

Why they have failed comparatively is based on many reasons, it could be, economical reasons, years of occupation and destruction. incompetence in leadership, the point is obvious, humans failed not Sharia law. If Sharia law itself failed then please provide the explaination for it.
