Sara Ege, 33, denies beating to death Yaseen Ali Ege at their home in Pontcanna, Cardiff, driven by a desire for him to memorise the Koran.

Jurors at Cardiff Crown Court are also considering the case against his father Yousuf Ege, 38, who denies causing his death by failing to protect him.

The jury will return on Monday.

Mrs Ege is accused of hitting her son "like a dog" with a stick.

The court has heard that the beatings were so brutal that Yaseen died in July 2010 from his injuries and a fire was started to burn his body and destroy evidence.

She beat him to death over Quraan? Is this how it happened or is the story misconstrued?

Anyways, Allah yaram to their son & may Allah grant him Jannat Al-Firdaws. I do not know what drives people to kill lest of all a mother to her own son. :(

was there a similar case with "step dad" involved?

Since when somali (in this case indians) women started taking their husband's last name, unless of course it is coincidence.
