You make a good point but that goes for other business too (hotels, restaurants) in regards to losses.

It would be a good idea then, since the investors are not interested, for the government to perhaps start a factory and start producing some goods. They can make some revenue needed so roads and infrastructure can be built. That's another thing I've wondered; a part from loan and aid money, how will the country get funds?

hotels and restaurants are not as capital intensive as building a factory and starting The only thing i can think of that is as capital intensive is telecom but that has a proven customers base so it makes sense to go into it.

On the other hand u can't guarantee that your investment will be worth it, when it comes to manufacturing. I also don't think a product made in Somalia will be that much cheaper than one produced and imported abroad. Somalia doesn't have a lot of the raw materials it takes to produce things to begin with.

It's all about risks. All business must do risks. If they don't, then you won't be able to start a business. I agree though that it is a large risk though that might make some investors uneasy. There is one example though of Somali made products which has made me optimistic. Back home, there are some companies that are selling Somali water bottles. It's everywhere and I have yet to see foreign water bottles in the country. I agree with you on the raw materials part.

Even the South has quite low rainfall, only around 300 mm mostly, which isn't much. If I were a billionaire seeking to invest in Africa, I wouldn't pick Somalia at all.

Somalis think too much of themselves, their land is shit.
