I think we are coming at a cross roads for the Somali diapora, we are no longer a homogeneous or monolethic society that many here like to believe. People will just need to accept the diversity of the Somali people, they are humans after all, whose behavior and beliefs are subject to their own experiences and environment.
Notice how they all have one or two thing in common? either coming from single mom homes or liberal parents who let them wear whatever, go out whenever, doesn't trip that they drink, smoke and "fock".
The only reason this shid is out is because of the prominence of the internet. I KNOW there definitely had to be under cover gaal Somalis in Somalia, past and present, but they can't come out and say shid cause they know what's coming for them

My mom has been having stomach pains the past year. The doctors tell her is it’s gas, but she doesn’t believe it and thinks she’s been bewitched by someone or that a jin (demon) is torturing her. It’s an absurd belief to say the least, but since both witchcraft and jins are mentioned in the quran their existence cannot be doubted in this house. This morning a short dark man with a big beard and a white Saudi thobe came to the house. He did a “quran sar” on her, which means he chanted some chapters of the quran over her and then spat toward her direction every few minutes. When a mouth of a Sheik recites quran, then his spit is considered I suppose an antibiotic for any number of illnesses induced by black magic or a repellent against jins hiding in someone’s body. I’ve also seen Sheiks sometimes spit in water when reciting quran, and that water is then drunk at a later time by the sick person as a remedy. The man will quran sar my mom for three days, and she’ll pay him $300 for his services.
Money is tight around the house and $300 is a lot of money. The sheik guy is making a killing off superstitious Somalis here who are willing to pay him to quran sar them. The guy is from another city and is visiting our state, and my mom estimates that he’s made around 5,000 dollars doing quran sar these the past two weeks. He doesn’t pay for a hotel because he gets free board, and his meals are made by those whom he’s servicing. At the best his spitting and chanting will have a placebo effect on all the sick and credulous people he’s duping. I can’t accuse the guy of being a conman, because I think he genuinely believes he possesses special healing powers that medically trained doctors don’t. What I can’t understand is why he charges so much from not so rich Somali people…..why can’t he do it just for the good deed?
