For those of you who didn't know, We are african americans. It does not matter who came here first or under what circumstances that led them to america. yes, Some came through slavery, some came through Student Visa, Some as Immigrants, some just sneaked in through the border.Once your skin is black and you hold american citizenship, You are African American. As a somali, I am black skinned, Came from Africa, so I am an african American.African Americans make up the single largest racial minority in the United States.[4] Most African Americans are of West and Central African descent and are descendants of enslaved Africans within the boundaries of the present United States.[5][6] However, some immigrants from African, Caribbean, Central American or South American nations, or their descendants, may be identified or self-identify with the term.[3]
It does not matter whether I claim Asian americans or native americans, if someone sees me in the street, they would see an African american male. That is what I wrote in my job application, driver's licence application, assylum application and Yes, Even in my appartment application. So Can I say I am not african american and continue writing down as my Identity everywhere I go? Who would I be fooling? but who looks more african american or black? Compare this girl to this somali famous politicians and tell me who looks more African American?
