The OP in that thread was a jerk. I have nothing against atheists, but they shouldn't have a superiority complex about their disbelief. For crying out loud, the guy titled the thread "any rationalists observing Ramadan?" So as to say only irrational people observe Ramadan. It's one thing to be a heretic, but it's another thing to be smug about it.

No, not necessarily.
It's just the name of an attribute some people have -- lack of belief in claimed gods.
Buddhists aren't atheists but They still believe in irrational things like reincarnation and live after death.
that does not mean they are irrational
There are no rules about WHY a person lacks belief in claimed in gods, and it istrue rational thinking do have the attribute of atheism. That's all.
