It was fascinating; it showed some of the sciences that illustrates the health benefits of fasting.
The program mentioned a few methods of fasting but the most interesting one was intermittent fasting (Fasting on alternative days). What this basically means is you need to fast two days in a week, consuming about 600 or so calories each day (only one meal) while on the other days you can pretty much eat whatever you want, and the health benefits are amazing. The reason why I found this interesting is because it's basically the Sunnah recommendation of fasting two days a week (Monday iyo Thursday) . Science is finally catching up with the Sunnah..
The results of the above fasting method was really impressive especially in terms of lower growth hormones, diabetes etc. In just a few days it dramatically reduced the risk of a whole bunch of age-related disease for the fella who took the challenge.
The reason why fasting has numerous health benefits is that.. basically when we eat a lot, our cells are locked in the growth mode, which makes them susceptible to cancer, diabetes and so on. Our cells hardly ever get a chance to do repair work as they are way too busy dealing with the effects of us constantly munching endless amount of cuunto.. Fasting gives our bodies a chance to catch up with those necessary jobs that lessen our chances of developing serious illnesses such as diabetes, lower rate of dementia, heart disease and even cancer.
Allahu Akbar.. I need to start fasting two days a week Inshaa Allah..
