Boon.

Postby zingii » Fri Aug 10, 2012 9:45 am

Sida aan ogahay, Boon waa magac dadka qaarkii la baxo.
Waxaan kale oo ogahay, dadka qaar inay aflagaado u arkaan.

Magaca Boon waxaan ku maqlay oo labaxo, dadka ka soo jeeda waqooyiga.
Sidoo kale isla reer waqooyiga ayaa magaca qaab aflagaado u isticmaalo.

Suaasha meesha taal ayaa ah:
Sidee magac ula bixi, isla markaana u caayi?

What is the negativity associated with that name by northerners.
They are the ones using the name but at the same time giving it a bad rep.

To my understanding the reason the Boon name is sometimes perceived as negativity could be because it is associated with a certain southern clan historically speaking. It also ryhmes with the beliefs of many poets decades back.

If that is the case as you would like us to believe then i must ask, why name your sons and settlements such a name?
Such a name doesn't exist in the south, if it does i'll be happy learn about it.

It's a derogatory term.
The low castes are generically indicated among the Hawiyya with the name of “Bon,” which is the name of an ancient people of hunters whose remains are found along the lower course of Giuba /Juba/ and on the coastal border with Kenya, where they are mixed with the Wa-Sanye.
Gabalollay: living with the Badi ‘Adda rer Waber and with the Hawadla Adan Yaber;
Gaggab: with the Badi ‘Adda Illabe and with the Hawadla; they are tanners;
Habeso-‘ad: with the Badi ‘Adda Illabe;
Eyla Halawo: with the Badi ‘Adda and with the Galgael ‘Alofe; they are hunters;
Eyla Gambaye: with the Badi ‘Adda and with the Galga‘el Abtisama; they are hunters;
Bon Marrehan: with the Badi ‘Adda;
Garyala: with the Hawadla rer Ugas;
Ukkuray: with the Hawadla;
Geymala: with the Hawadla; they are blacksmiths
Angallaye: with the Hawadla; they are blacksmiths;
Barbaro: with the Galga‘el
Yayla: with the Hawadla Adan Yaber;
Gaboya: with the Abgal; they are tanners;
Dardo: with the Abgal; they are weavers
Anyways, its 2012. Inshallah we move past this nonsense

A Popular misconception of the term BUUN(coffee). When the coastal cities of Hobyo and Bender qasim were rife with trade of Gee, exotic animal skins, Foox and Bun the land took it's name not from Frankinsence[Foox] but Coffee[Bun/Buun].

Across the india ocean the coastal town of PUNE which also took it's name after BUUN trade is another example of how ancient trade routes influenced culture tradition and has left us a lasting genetic diversity to this day.

During the early trades of the this precious commodity the people that were involved in it's trade were often termed Buuns/Boons depending of language used. We are talking about a time that predated the arrival of Darood and Isaaq. The time when the Buuntlanders traded with India, the queen of Sheba and the Pharaohs etc. At the time the Horn of africa is occupied by DIR, GALLA and BUUNS. All modern somalis are a product of these 3 groups in varying mixtures, along with Arabian, indian and other african traders intermarried with the women of the locals.

The significant difference between Darood and Isaaq is that when they arrived the Isaaq settled with the DIR+GALLA where as Darood settled among the BUUNS and the fact that Dombiro(wife of Darood) was DIR suggests that the somali ancestral communities did intermingle.

We need to respect and honor all Somali ancestors alike DIR, GALLA and BUUNS all deserve our respect... The labels we use were those created for them by outsiders for all we know all somalis were just one and it is outsiders that gave them different names like DIR, GALLA and BUUNS based on what they traded.
