Well because when they hear the word sufi they declare all sufis to be mushriks and are or on the verge of leaving islam.

I don't really get involved in religious debates since my knowledge is limited and I'm sure many of you here have a greater understanding of deenta but it seems no one really presents their case without insulting or demeaning others

for example my major problem is that they do not respect the 4 madhabs and think they surpass them for some reason.

Gurey i've heard it from them selves, my old primary school friend whom i met after not seeing him for a rather long time.

He asked me are you a 'Salafi?' i replied if you mean by what the modern Salafi is then no, i replied i consider myself to be a muslim shafi'i who's praciticing tassawuf/spirituality, he said is that Sufism? i replied Yes. Then he said brother stop you are going to areas where there's alot of bida3 and shirk which can end up on you leaving the deen, come to salafiyya its the reserved sect for jannah.

And about the 4 madhabs, i've heard they said that following these 4 madhabs is bida' or something close to that, isn't the 4 madhabs part of the best 3 generations?

they want to reform almost everything in the deen, the men of the past who lived between 632-1700 shaped the deen , educationally and all aspects where you can find people following what they tought today, the salafis expect to throw that out of the window and adapt to something new.

We salafis believe in the real Tawassuf while you follow one which is upon bid'ah. You celebrate Mawliid when none of the sahabah or even the 4 centuries after didn't celebrate it.

Brother let me teach you a little lesson, tasawwuf is someone who wears a woolen garment, so the people who live in cold places and wear wool jackets are mutasawwifoon, people who wear soof (wool). This was done in the early years of Islaam by ascetic Muslims who gave little concern for worldly possessions. Now back in Arabia soof was the least expensive garment due to its futility in desert weather. Basically it's a synonoym for zuhd, many sahaba were considered these like Abu Darr (ra) and Umar (ra).

So the scholars of Ahlus-Sunnah who praised someone for tasaw-wuf, they meant zuhd, not heretic beliefs as the Sufis of today do, may Allaah bless you.
