This past Tuesday, Khalid began his senior year of high school. He has been volunteering with the Ellison Campaign for several weeks to make sure voters know what’s at stake this election.
“Over the summer, Khalid came in five days a week and made hundreds of calls,” says Osman Ahmed, community organizer with Ellison for Congress. “He picked up grassroots organizing really fast and has great conversations with voters at their doors as well.”
“Before I started volunteering for Keith, I didn’t even know there was a Primary Election. It was a nice way to get to know Minnesota politics,” says Khalid. Khalid made a big impression on the Ellison for Congress staff right away with his hard work getting out the vote for our Democratic Primary Election. He made hundreds of phone calls to make sure voters got to the polls. Thanks to his hard work along with dozens of other volunteers, our campaign received over 30,000 votes.
One of Khalid’s favorite days volunteering for our campaign was at our recent Labor Day Weekend BBQ. “I thought it went really well,” he says. “We talked with hundreds with voters, enjoyed good food, and overall had a great time.”
Khalid credits the campaign with teaching him about the power of grassroots organizing. He plans to continue volunteering even during the school year.
Once he graduates, Khalid hopes to attend the West Point Academy next fall and serve our country in any way he can.
Great to see our youth civically engaged on their local representation and local issues. This is your country too and don't let no racist cac or xenophobic mother effer tell you otherwise.

running for public office in this country requires you to sell yourself out and be part of the group think with reagrds to our policies (look at Israel, for example)
