Somali Visual Artists..

Postby Ozaki » Sat Oct 27, 2012 8:26 am

I was wondering, are there any Somali visual artist other than Amin Amir?

Seems like an area we are severely lacking in..

Yeah but we have plenty of musicians, poets, writers and such. I just thought it was bizarre that I could not name a single Somali visual artist. So I was wondering if its something inherent within our culture..

ozaki, the main reason is that most Somalis believe drawing a living thing is haram and will take u to hell.

I know a couple of very talented Somalis who can sketch human faces better than many professionals. They do (or used to) do it just for fun.

Visual art cover a wide ranges of arts. You'll find this artist all over somalia. mainly making traditional craft such as Dhiil, Barkin qori, kooro etc.

Somalis are the best.

Aamin Caamir
