Waxaan soo xasuustaa markaan wadankuu Yalaxow ku noolyahay aan ku noolaa. Waxay aheyd 5 sano ka hor. Nin askari boolis ah ayaa wuxuu yidhi, isagoo ka hadleya situation-ka Somalida... ''Somalidu waa reer miyi, markey abaar jirto reer miyiga wax ka shaqo badan ma jiro (because their life depend on it) hase yeeshee markey barwaaqo jirto, reer miyigu way iska seexdaan oo way raaxeysdaan. Wadankani na waa Barwaaqo (i.e welfare system etc.)...''

He used the reer miyi as a metaphor and if you ask me he described our people perfectly.
Maxaad ugu jawaabtay? Ma ku tidhi, reer miyigaas baad 52 sanadood, ilaa maalintii xooriyada la siiyay iyo iila maanta, faraha kula jirtan. Ma ku tidhi, Somalidu, gumaysigii aad ku heesayn aye maanta istaahilan iin Welfare-for-life la siiyo with respect too.

He said it in an interview... It was a big review about Somalis in Gothenburg and their problems, made by journalists for the local newspaper. They were discussing subjects like crime, lack of higher education, welfare dependency among other things.

I didn't have a chance to answer him personally..
Got it.

Rightwing,

The upcoming welfare reforms i believe (hope twill be true) will be a huge blessing for the somaalis. Naagihi kibirka ka batey will go back to the olden ways where most if not will be depending on their husbands for bread on the table  and the lazy men that stayed at home whose sole job was to take the kids to school and get them out in the afternoon will have to go seek work and re-learn how to earn a respectfull rizq which they seem to have forgoten. InshaAllah qeyr.

Arinkaa wax baa ka jiraa  Sheekadii bacda madaw ayaa soo dhamaanaysa

I welcome this. now they have no choice but to get off their behinds and start working. May God help our people see that free loading doesnt lead to prosperity. Working hard does.

^^ It is not as simle as finding a job. There are many unemloyed people who have exerience and skills. The Somalis mothers, many who do not speak english well( btw, government cut some funding for esol classes), will be expected to compete against those people and the daily arrivals from Spain, Portugal and Ireland. Secondly, sometimes it is economically better for certain people to stay on benefits and not work. I know a white women who used to be on benefits, now she does work, but when she calculated it she loses 30 pounds each week. I know another woman who I used to work with that didn't return when she had a baby because the cost of childcare would be more if she was working.

i dont think they mean people who are illegible but the people who plan to be in that system for ever and do not look any other options. why some one would be in government handouts for 10+? why not at least go to school and get some skills? i mean okay take it but ka faideyso and go to school and learn something that makes to get job easirt instead having kids and no planning to work for those you bringing in this world!!! priorities. ba lo bahan yahay.

Abdi, those were a few sensationalized cases. The problem with Europe as a whole is the entitlement culture and social policies that makes it more profitable to collect welfare checks than go out and work. America has always been the land of opportunity where upward social mobility is almost guaranteed with hard work and a little bit of luck.

Somalis here are heavily involved in the local economy and dominate entire sections of some cities. I can't speak for other areas but In my town alone, there are thousands of Somali owned and operated businesses that employ thousands of people, Somali and non-Somali. I don't think the same can be said for any other diaspora group in the West.
Even one case is a case too many. You don't see this from other immigrant groups like africans and asians.

I do agree however, that the most successful somalis usually come from Africa and the Gulf countries. This is because there isn't any social safety net for them by way of welfare and dole, so they are forced to work hard and succeed or starve/get deported.

My area is a mix. You get qat-addicted bums sitting in a maqaaxi all day and a mifrish all night and you get hard-working entrepreneurs that are contributers to society.. You get hooyos popping out a baby every year and sitting on their arses drinking shaah and you get hooyos that are proactive in their childrens education and work from 7am till late night trying to pay for rent and tuition for kids.
