A Kenya soldier and a civilian have been shot dead by unknown gunmen outside a shop in Garissa.

The assailants also injured another civilian in the Sunday attack.

The three were in a company of another man chewing khat outside a shop in the town when unknown assailants emerged and shot them at close range.

The soldier, a sergeant, and the civilian died on the spot while another civilian is recuperating in hospital.

However, there were conflicting reports whether the deceased officer was a KDF or a policeman.
