That's incorrect. They paid:THIS MEANT THAT THE 3 MEN EACH PAID $9 FOR THE ROOM,
WHICH IS A TOTAL OF $ 27,

There is nothing confusing about it. Although they originally paid £10 each, they don't receive their individual refunds of £1 against their original payment of £10, but against a minimised balance of 10 -0.666. Which means they have paid £8.333 for the room.It clearly says each guest paid £10..
Your solution is also confusing.

yes cuz, it's a bit confusing but Cilmidoon, WestlndShawty and Cumar have broken it down nicely. Some people are a bit more gifted than others when it comes to numbers. Anigu grade 10 ayaan ka loox tuuray xisaabta![]()

Good one it did mess with my head for a minute
I think the answer is there was no other dollar since the men were not really charged $30
At the end of the day, the guy at the desk got $25
The three men paid $9 each which was a total of $27
There is a difference of $2 which the cheeky boy pocketed
Am I right?

The misleading part is the following:
That's incorrect. They paid:THIS MEANT THAT THE 3 MEN EACH PAID $9 FOR THE ROOM,
WHICH IS A TOTAL OF $ 27,
$25 for the room. (Or $8.333 each).
$2 to the boy. (or $0.666 each).
And they received $3 back ($1.00 each).
