Somali President: Somalis come back to your country

Postby Tanker » Fri Jan 11, 2013 8:22 pm

A press released on Tuesday, the Somalia government stated that it is ready to bring back it's citizens with the increasing stability in the country.

Somalia has been affected a civil war that last over 20 years. The long years of fighting and instability in the war torn state forced many families, where 70% of the population is women and children, to flee across to neighbouring Kenya, Ethiopia and further abroad.

Since then, about half a million Somalis currently live in and around Dadaab, the largest refugee camp in the world.

It has been barely a month after the government gave a directive for all Somalis who have moved to urban areas to return to Dadaab and other camps, following a spate of grenade attacks.

The situation in Somalia continues to improve. Food production is expected to rise later this year. The growing conditions are favorable therefore making the yield for the domestic production above average in many areas across the state.

The federal government has also improved the security situation allowing more aid corridors to open up for emergency food supplies and assistance leading to humanitarian work to expand once again. Recently a British developmental agency, UKaid granted 12million pounds towards supporting and strengthening Somali communities. Training and security measures in place has helped the locals and their children lead safer and more secure lives.

The improving situation in Somalia has also allowed UNICEF, the World Health Organization and other partners to conduct a health outreach in improving the health of the most vulnerable group, the women and the children. In December over 400 medical teams were mobilized to administer immunization drops and vaccines for children to protect them against common diseases such as measles, polio, diphtheria and tetanus.
