If it were upto me I would tell you to get the Samsung Galaxy Note 2, I have one myself and it is the best phone out there right now without a doubt. Having said that though, it is a bit too large for the liking of a lot of people, specially women. So my second option for you will be the Samsung Galaxy S3, can't go wrong with this Serene. The screen isn't as large as the Note 2 though. Apps wise, there are tons of apps that will allow you sent/receive texts for free, like textplus, whatsapp, Viber and even the old kik messenger.

The iphone 5 isn't so bad itself as well to be honest, its only problem is that is very similar to every other iphone out there. Just thinner but the operating system is the same. Also keep in mind that apple is already talking about releasing iphone 5S sometime this year.

The Blackberry Z10 was just released yesterday, and I've played with this phone for about a week. My honest opinion is that this is something that should have been released 5 yrs ago. It is the start of something that could be good but for now, besides BBM it doesn't offer anything that you can't get on iphones and androids.

i agree, the Galaxy Note II is probably your best bet. but it is a borderline tablet. if you find it a bit too big, you can go for some of the 5" phones that while big, are not daunting like the Xperia Z, HTC DNA, and maybe even try the new Blackberry Z10.

for apps the only one that matters to me is PlayerPro . though Temple Run was fun back when my phone was able to hold a decent charge.

So I was searching reviews on the Samsung Galaxy Note II on youtube and googling more info. Then I looked up the price on amazon.

I think my first phone was less the $100, doesn't work anymore. I think my second phone was about $70, Samsung m320, and got it about a few years ago. Still useable but falling apart.
So I thought I would be spending maybe $150 on my next phone.
It's like buying a laptop.

I gotta really consider this one :| . Plan on checking it out at the mall
