The Karamo brothers ruined Somali music...not anymore

Postby The`Republic » Mon Feb 18, 2013 12:22 am

For those of you who pay attention I would say almost all the Somali music coming out in the past decade were monopolozed on the music production part by the Karamo brothers, Mustafa or Mohamed Karama. Their beats are wack and they made Somali music regurgitated carbon copy of each other using cheap electric keyboard stuff. Some have fought back but through Western influence. For the first time a young group of peers from Hargeisa have burst out and brought some originality in the Somali-owned music narrative. Mursal Muuse and his Ha I raadsan is the most well known from them but here is Khadra Sinimo probably filmed in Djibouti I think.

I support anyone who resists and fights the Karamo brothers and their wack monopoly on Somali music production

somalia is like the only country where there's pretty much just one genre of music. can you even call it a genre? generic synth driven tunes with (also generic) reggae-ish undertones sung by tone deaf singers crooning about "aashaqaaaaa".

i'm sure there was more diverse music before the war though...at least I hope.

I can make a Somali melody by randomly hitting the black keys on the keyboard.

I love those slow beats so that you can absorb the words. music nowadays carry little meaning because its the sophistication of the beats than the wisdom of the words spoken.

The Keyboard was introduced to Somali music in the 80's but the musicians didnt rely exclusively on the keyboard like they do today.

Digfeer in the 80's. The Keyboard is there but still somewhat in the background.

Hassan Aadan Samatar in the early 70's and guess what no keyboard. :blessed:

Classic songs though. :wow: :wow: :wow:
