It's official: If a family male is present and approves, ladies may now ride bikes in parks.

I think many folks anticipating major changes on gender norms in the region didn't realize that the new law doesn't represent a change in the way Saudi officials view women; it's a change in the way they view bikes.

The administration, I think, now feels that bikes, when used in conjunction with an abaya, not for transportation and in the company of a male do not constitute anything wrong for women.

The attitude towards women being accompanied by a male, donning an abaya and what is or is not proper entertainment for them remains the same.

So, theoretically, the ones celebrating this should have been BMX and Schwinn...

Why is the entire issue funny, or that particular comment? The last line in the comment is pretty hilarious. That guy knows his comedy.

The entire issue just dumbfounds me. I fail understand how a people who build entire cities dedicated solely to female education and employment could be so unconventionally retarded. Nothing they do makes sense to me.

Yup. That confused me the most. We spent hours simply driving around, unable to get into malls and parks. Lol, strange place indeed.
