AMISOM & Kenyan Vehicles

Postby gurey25 » Mon May 20, 2013 7:04 am

I was watching unoversal Tv and i noticed on several occations these vehicles

I know the Ugandans use the Casspir
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Casspir

Image

but i recently noticed the nyla
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/RG-31_Nyala

Image

Who operates the nyala?

Ive been a major advocate of these south african vehicles and i was even advocating for them in 2003 on some millitary forums
and was heaping scorn and ridicule on the use of the Humvee in Iraq, i remember predicting lots of dead .
i feel a great satisfaction from the i told you so feeling, when every country in the world ditched the humvee and other similar vehicles and opted for south african vehicles like the ones above.

yes all the south african vehicles are mine proof and even IED proof.
they will protect the crew from most IED's.

only the big motherfkrs will tear them apart, but alshabab uses only small IED's,
most of the IED's in Iraq and Afghanistan were also small.
only the hezbollah used a mine to tear open the worlds most protected tank the merkava 3,
but they only got to do it twice before the isrealis freaked out and changed tactics.
hamas managed to build a copy of the hezbollah one and did the same but they only managed it once.

you dont build or buy weapons for fun, ok at least serious countries do not maybe the arabs do.
in this case you have to look at what its designed for scouting and recon in force. Thats is ging into enemy territory to get intell and fighting your way out of trouble and running like hell if faced by a main battle tank or more than one.

this is what the rooikat was built for, and since the end of the angola war there was no need for anything like this.
this is why they built only a small number of this class.

its speed and maneuverability in the grasslands of somalia is usefull but its too expensive and a technical armed with an ATGM or an armoured car could do the job at less than 1/10 the price.

for the somali environment the vehicles in the thread along with the old technicals and some decent artillery or mortars would be the best solution.
The solution for alshabaab and other clan millitias.
against Ethiopia or Kenya it can be usefull and put up a decent fight especially if you have enough ATGM's ,
but then again they will employ their airforces and the game is over.

if you somehow manage to keep the opposing countries airforces on the ground and away from the battlefield, you may even have a chance to defend yourself if you have the right
strategy and tactics.

Yep. Humvees are overrated. Very mobile but there are safer vehicles. Ironically, its African countries with ex white governments that developed some of the best armoured vehicles. Probably as a necessity to the countless guerrilla warfare that took place against them. The South Africans are good when it comes to armoured vehicles that are mine and IED resistant. Gurey the Rhodesian MRAP that was modified by South Africa is also really good.

The Shabaab can smoke quite a few of the Kenyan Humvees whereas its much harder for them to damage the Kenyan av's.
