a woman's age in the somali culture
I have seen a 28 year old woman who is incredibly beautiful and looks 10 years younger slighted by a 30 year old somali man who went on to marry a 21 year old girl who looks 30+
waa cajiib.
waa cajiib.

Not cajiib, just a thinking brother. Somali men want to plant their seed, a 21 year old is most likely more fertile than a 28 year old, regardless of their looks.
Critically thinking Faaraxs are a rare sight, bless the brother.

Lol maybe he likes older looking young girls?

Because 28 is when women reach menopause.Kafkaesque wrote:Not cajiib, just a thinking brother. Somali men want to plant their seed, a 21 year old is most likely more fertile than a 28 year old, regardless of their looks.

I don't think its coz he wanted a younger girl or an older looking girl, he just couldn't keep it in his pants and decided to make it halal.

Sorry for interrupting the topic - at what age group do Somalis generally marry? Do you usually live with the man's family or some other arrangement?
Re: a woman's age in the somali culture
Back home? The rural/nomadic Somalis usually marry quite young, especially the females. It's common to see girls younger than 18 get married.zamindawari wrote:Sorry for interrupting the topic - at what age group do Somalis generally marry? and r u a critically thinking farax..and if faced with similar predicament choose the latter?Kafkaesque wrote:Not cajiib, just a thinking brother. Somali men want to plant their seed, a 21 year old is most likely more fertile than a 28 year old, regardless of their looks.

true, the decline of fertility in women as they get older is a factor worth noting, however a 28 year old is still within her fertility age bracket ..and further, I'll have you know it isnt' always a guarantee a woman in her peek fertility will necessarily conceive. I personally know a young woman who was married at the age of 19 and had her first baby at 26, nothing wrong with both her and her husband and no contraceptives used..in fact they were actively ttc since getting married. Allah blesses children with whoever He chooses.
the issue of women and age in our culture is beyond fertility... you'll see women who are married and with children lying about their age, mind you these are women less concerned with appealing to men for marriage prospect..and if given the choice to turn back the clock either in age or looks would choose age.. what gives?

A woman has no age in somali culture ( geeljire culture). Women fall into six main categories;
1. Gashaanto ( 14-17)
2. Gumeeys ( unmarried 17+)
3. Marwo/xaas ( married)
4. Garoob ( divorcee)
5, Cajuuso
6. Geesxer ( engaged but refuses to marry).
Nowadays, even cajuusos are younger than 30.
There is a race to the bottom (agewise)

Re: a woman's age in the somali culture
In tribal Pashtun society it can get much younger than that even (especially when factoring in the girls who have fathers that arrange their marriage to someone specific when they are still a child). However, the actual exchange doesn't usually occur until a set age, like the arrangement is made when the girl is 6 but the man doesn't get her until she's 15 or whatever set age. If 18 is young, I married my first wife when I was 18, she was 14. I felt sorry for her, her character conflicted with her family so they all hated her and I think her father wanted her gone, long story. Many people today who have been infected with western leaning perspectives are very against marriage at a young age but I honestly believe it is best for the natural order that we marry as soon as possible and this view is supported Nabi (SAW) as narrated in Sahih al Bukhari, Book 62, hadith 4 - Actually he doesn't mention a specific age, he says "Ya ma'asharal shabaab..." meaning youth. " So Allah's Apostle said, "O young people! Whoever among you can marry, should marry, because it helps him lower his gaze and guard his modesty, and whoever is not able to marry, should fast, as fasting diminishes his sexual power."Titanium wrote:Back home? What is the difference between cajuuso/gumeeys? I thought they both meant spinster?

aging is part of life, I don't know why Women can't accept that, even asking their age is a big no no.

That 21 year old could infact be in her 30s..
Those that have been brought to the west with a fake age still claim it..
