Khalid,
Actually, it depends where you are; several cultural/traditional dances, poems are called differently, depending on where you are

Abshir Bacaadle was talented

Khalidow, Bacadle was a master; he could do the geerar, the guurow, the gabay and even the saar.

This Dirir guy is also a talent.

The HOOYAALAYEY, HOOYAALAYEY is perhaps the most common gabay by Somalis.

It's unfortunate that you hardly ever see suroow performed anymore. Along with saar & beereey. :lawd:

Blackvelvet, I already post that Guurow/saar by the great Cali Jareere who was a student of Sheikh Nuur Xusein fraternity which is located outside Jilib (xaramka). Sheikh Nuur Xuseen fraternity also fostered Carees Ciise and this guy; shiraan shidaad muraad.

A sort of Islami/somali gospel school which combined religious songs with occassional love song

Anarchist,
Are the Beerey, Kabeebey and Qaboobey related? I know that Beerey is usually played in Hiiraan; Kabeebey in Muqdisho/afgooye and Qaboobey in Bardheere. Farming societies.

@Lama- Sxb kabeebeey is just niiko & is Reer Shabelle dance whereas beereey has origins in Jubba and other farming communities like you mentioned. They're very close.

This video has some kabeebeey starting @4.12 and then geeraar starting @6.25. Shiidle from Mahadaay.

Anarchist gartay saaxib. In Baardheere they dance to "Qaboobey".

Did you remember this? They used to visit H/wadaag under the leadership of the CAWAR guy. I used to visit Boondheere just to see them. Very poetic.

Haa saaxib Hawl wadaag -iskoolka agtiisa, suuqa mijiska gadaashiisa- odeyaasha kabaha falaarta ku tuuri jirey.

Gurigeena wuxuu ka soo horjeeday reer qalqale iyo odeygii lahaa caasiyaasha (Amal aabaheeda) meesha bohosha camal ahayd;

Hawlwadaag waay shidneeydey; Baar Bekin, Tokyo, jidka dabka ka imaado; Ma xasuusataa guriga Maryan Mursal walaasheeda? farmashiga hanti wadaag?

Here too; Aw Kuku
