Why do Somalis care what other Somalis think?

Postby Titanium » Tue Jun 04, 2013 7:40 pm

Over the weekend, I was with one of my boys at the mall and by chance he sees his non Somali ex- GF. They are on good terms and maintain a close friendship so they hugged each other and a peck on the cheek and whatnot and greeted each other. While they were doing this, a few Somali ladies walked past from the entrance and squinted their eyes as if they were trying to determine who that Somali boy was that was so close to a Gaalo girl. He realizes what was going on so he turns his head towards the wall hoping they didn't see his face. They ended up disappearing into the distance and he turns his head around with the girl looking hella confused as to why he just randomly turned his backs from us for a good 10 seconds. It seemed obvious that he knew the ladies and was probably his mother's friends or something.

Anyways the girl leaves us and I ask him "where those ladies your mom's friends?". He respond, "No. I don't even know them". :?

I would have done the same ..... lol.... i wonder why we are the only people who have some "shame" to that level

Do any of you do these sorts of things when Somalis are around

I live in a place where the Somalis all know each other, therefore one must be extremely vigilant while in the company of non-mahram females

You don't care until you're caught slipping. We're also a pretty small community. If the lady ever sees your friend again, she'll tell whomever she's with "haa, wa inanki aan maalinti dhoweed arkaye asago gaalad gacantiisa dhexda ku hayaa ayuu iga jeestay". The person she's with may know your friend or of your friend, then word is gonna get out to his family, relatives, and/or neighbours and friends  This is also why when Somalis do dirt, they tend to do it with either a few closeeeeeeeeeeeeee Somali friends that won't snitch cause they're in the same predicament, or with ajnabis  Meel dhexayso ma jirto. Kuwaa kalaaxan oon dan ba lahayn iska dhaafo but I'd say the majority of Somalis fall into this group.

Some Somali women are evil bruv, it might be that their son or daughter is a complete waste of space so when they catch you slipping one day, it is leverage for them. Now your mum has got no bragging rights because this lady caught you doing such and such and obviously you wouldn't want your mother to find out you did something that would upset her.

Waa iska 'community parenting'.

I don't mind reporting whatever I'm doing but you have to get the story straight. Usually they run wild with assumptions and suspicions. Consequently, coming back home to a full blown interrogation. I mean whatever happened to thinking the best of your Muslim brethren? :?
