Depends what you mean by online dating. Meeting someone on online dating site or meeting someone on social networking sites? I personally wouldn't do online dating. I'd like to meet my significant other face to face. That sort of bump into each other or see each other around and fall in love kinda thing

I only used datingsites as an example. When I'm talking about online dating i'm referring to social networks. I started this thread being against the whole concept of online dating. Although I still dont think its for me, I can see why others are drawn to it. But like you said' what about love at first sight or butterflies in stomach when you're with your significant other.

In this day and age, seems like dating/finding a spouse online is becoming the norm laakin there are some risk of being conned or ripped off though so be careful

I couldnt agree more. My issue with online dating is' how do you know the person you're talking to is really who they say they are. Shows like catfish are a perfect example of what i mean' posting fake pictures, lying about your real name etc. Its kinda creepy when you think about all the things that could go wrong with online dating.

A friend of mine got married to a guy she met online in a chatroom. He lived in an entirely different continent. It wasn't easy as you'd have to send your family to ask about him and such, but alhamdullilah eventually after a few years they did get married.
If you know someone personally,{so you know they're not using you} it can work, if you're committed to each other even if he lives in a different continent. You'll just have to fill in a lot of paperwork to bring him over and this can take some time, or you can alternatively go and live where he lives. I would caution against complete strangers though, most times it doesn't lead to marriage as there are many misunderstandings due to proximity issues, esp if they live in far away countries as you'd have to sit down with the person to suss them out and such. Also you wouldn't know where to start with enquiring about their character, who would you ask? how would you know he is a good man?

I would never get married to someone in another continent as they tend to think more about building a future in europe rather than building a future with you. My friend's cousin did that, she fell inlove with a guy during a vacation to africa. This man manipulated the poor girl into thinking he was madly inlove with her and that she should bring him into europe so he could be with her. As soon as he got the passport ' this farah left her ass for a younger woman. He used and abused her; girls stick to a farahs in europe!!!

i don't look down on it, but just not bothered putting personal stuff on a dating site, I have never used a dating site before and don't intend to either, but I have meet with people from the online world before, mainly fb though, I use to have a rule not to ever do it before, still do in some ways but less strict as I got older/bigger and less fearful for my safety, generally I prefer real world, online chicks are too much hassle.
