"ma ana waalan mise cadan aya laga heesaaya"

Postby Navy9 » Thu Jul 04, 2013 8:22 am

I have tried to trace down this proverb but so far I have not seen a satisfying explanation for it.

Do you know when it was said, who said it, and what was the underlying reasons for it?

And is it really possible to see/hear something happening on the Asian side by someone at the African side? Or is it just a metaphor that Aden is so lovely and lively that an African nomad's motor sense, which has been destroyed by an over-eating Khat session, imagined he is hearing stuff!!

What do you think dear Somneters?

Navy,

I have the true/real explanation of this proverb. I was told the time but honestly I don't remember exactly.

A guy from Burco visited Cadan/Yemen and while he was in that City he used to hear an Arabic Song. He came back to Burco and one day while he was walking in the streets /market of Burco the guy heard the same song that he used to hear. The song was coming from a store owned by shop owner called Geedeeye who owned one of those radios that were rare in those days, but the guy didn't know where the song was coming from. The guy was so confused and couldn't figure out why he was hearing the same song he heard in Aden and he was like " Waar maanaa waalan, mese Cadan baa laga heesayaa"

Thanks Kambuli, I appreciate that. Have you heard this same story from another source or have you seen someone outside your family giving the same account as yours?
