In the year 2012-2013 they sent $13.92 billion to Pakistan. Image That is more cash than the entire GDP of
many countries.

That's true, that's good for them. Keep in mind their population is large 170 million + and so is their diaspora which numbers 7 million or more *Cough, Cough* that's probably how many Somalis there are in the world, we tend to exaggerate our numbers.

Dude we are becoming an endangered species. *I'm very afraid.*

It is not just about population, there is many countries that have similar population to Pakistan, yet their diaspora isn't as active. Most Pakistanis in the
diaspora are employed in the healthcare, teaching, construction fields, they go overseas to work. Work and work, that is their motto.

As for Somalis, Somali diaspora worldwide sends about $1-$1.5 billion through remittances to back home a year. For a smaller population struggling with
Khat and unemployment problems that isn't really bad, it could be improved though.

That is certainly true. They can draw from a lot of human capital. Kudos to them for sticking together and giving back to their community/people; that's what I call group economics/ a good financial education.

Secret you make a great point. They say that those raised abroad in host nations (normally western ones) during childhood or individuals born there are less likely to remit monies compared to their parents generation. I remember reading that in Professor Samatar's JOURNAL OF SOMALI STUDIES. I just wonder where the lack of motivation stems from. Is it because of the parents not instilling that into the children, or b/c of the loosening of familial bonds to extended relatives?

we're doing good aswell ,dere is not even a million somali in the diaspoara and we send back at least 1.6$ per year. they almost 7 million in the diaspora and they send back 13 bill. plus these guys came to these countries before us and when buying land or houses were cheap. when buying corner shops were cheap. they had time to settle during a time when things weren't as hard as they are now. there is no 2 ways for somali. we must get education and make money in the health sector and public sector. we cant just open corner shops or takeaways because that field is tight and packed. look you wouldnt even do well owning wholesale shops because that too is packed and these asians buy from their asians. this is how they do so well. they buy from their country men. EDUCATION is the only way out inshallah.
