I think an arsonist did this in retaliation of the traders forcefully evicted from the duty free shops.
The traders woke up to the nightmare of their goods being damped outside the main entrance of the building. They were not given any warning.

There was a wrangle between Kenya ports Authority management and Kamlesh Patni.
Kamlesh had a contract for the duty free shops for more or close to two decades. The KPA wanted to renovate and expand the premises and when the contract ended they didnt renew it nor give the traders who were subcontracted the time to vacate. They just decided to damp the goods outside very early in the morning before the traders had arrived and they locked the building. They had done this as they were afraid of a court injunction that might had gone in favour of the traders.

Kamlesh Patni is a Billionaire Kenyan of indian background.
He was involved in the early 90's in a Gold Scam that saw close to 12 Billion Kenyan Shillings fradulently obtained from the Central Bank of Kenya using compensation scams.
A Court battle ensued for 2 decades but reached a stalemate and he was never convicted.
The guy is a genius in law suits battles thats why KPA feared settling this issue in court.

Not one single working fire engine in the Nairobi Firefighting Council:
There may not have been fire engines available to respond. The country’s largest newspaper, The Daily Nation, reported last month that Nairobi County doesn’t have a single working fire engine, and that three fire engines were auctioned off in 2009 because the county hadn’t paid a $1,000 repair bill.

Fire fighters are owned mostly by security firms and the KDF.
The Nairobi County is in its early stages and hopfully Kidero will do the job well.

No fire engine owned and operated by the city? This is the African brain at work.
