An Aussie bugger with Aussie slangs. A Topic for Slang words

Postby Mowhawk » Sun Oct 02, 2005 9:32 pm

Ramadan is arround the corner, and Inshallah everyone would be having fun and being nice to each other here. I thought I would start a thread to make a list of funny Australian sayings/slang to share with you guys. Please add yours too.

"Stone the Crows" - Omigosh
"Crikey" - Everyone knows that one...well those who watch Steve Irwin would...
"Aggro" - for aggrevation. Said when someone is acting aggresive
"Bludger" - a lazy person
"bonza" - excellent. probably from the japanese word bonzai
"bushed" - extremely tired
"yobbo" - either a complete fool, or a funny person.
"tucker" - food
"relos" - your relatives
"yacka" - hard work
"dunny" - toilet
"kick up a stink" - to start an argument
"chook" - a chicken
"chinwag" - a good conversation
"strewth!" - goodness gracious
"strewth ruth!" - GOODNESS GRACIOUS ME!
"Bloody Nora" - (sorry for the swearing, in Australia its not a real swear word. 5yr olds say it) it means omigosh
"thank your mother for the rabbits" - I don't really know. Rex Hunt (an ex- Australian footballer footballer now tv fisherman and sports commentator) says this all the time. i think it just means thank you.
"drongo" - a stupid person
"up the duff" - someone who is pregnant
"Ridgey didge" - the truth

Well thats all I can think of for now. So next time you are talking to an Australian you can say some of these and they'll know what your on about! Hope it brightened your day a bit. Some of them are a crack up aren't they? Hardly anyone says these, but country people still do.

Ramadaan karriim......

Add your American, Brit, Canadian and New Zealander slang words.

A few of those are used by Canadians also. We share a lot of Brit slang. "Aggro" is a term though we skaters use a lot though. " Whoah! Aggro move, dude!" Crikey, that was a cool list Mow! Cool
