Ok so I haven't been coming on here like I used to. I am taken aback by Somalis mostly females who pander this Somalis are "African American" or "Black" nonsense.... We are "SOMALI" before anything else our color is a given & not something we identify our self with as a people. Usually people who are without a nation or tribe resort to those kind of general "Identifications" as a last resort!!! I understand there are "Some" Somali's both men & women who are in relationships with African Americans...I have a hunch some of them have a vested interest to push this regressive idea on us....Since any offspring's they have with African Americans will lose their Somali Identity. So is the wider Somali community supposed to give up its Somali identity because a few want to mold us to their "Agendas" maybe you should've thought about that before marrying out???? I am Somali that has black skin <--adjective. I am not merely a Color. Africans have also called them self's by their ethnicity & tribes & even nationalities but we have never downgraded our human essences to a mere color!!! So can those who are pandering this garbage please tell us whats the fixation & agenda???

I don't know where this treachery is emanating from...assimilation is a just a nice way of saying "Genocide"! No way around it. Why should we give up our identity, culture language to fit in with a mongrel race who has long lost theirs??? Not to mention the 2 cultures are very incompatible! We have a homeland & a rich culture that's worth it's weight in gold! To lose it to African Americans is treacherous! Other groups that have been here for 100's of years such as the Chinese & Mexican Americans have retained their culture! Having said that I understand that in America we are viewed as "Black" by physical appearance...Some people on this site as of late have been advocating overtly or covertly that Somalis should simply call themselves "Black" which is the my point for creating this thread....Any Somali with eye sight can tell he is "Black" & its simply a superficial identity....I am sure you've never seen an Arab say "I am Asian" after all much of the Arab world is on the "Asian" landmass....Even other "Black" people from Africa & the Caribbean are proud to tell you I am "Jamaican" "Ethiopian" ect but.... *Some* Somali individuals have taken it a step further advocating that we are simply "African American" or "Black" while discarding the "Somali" identity for the purpose of "assimilation" as some have even put it! Why should what some Somali people say bother you to such a degree? You know you are Somali (to a fault it may seem) and holding on to your culture is your responsibility. You can teach your kids the language, the music, the culture; what others decide to do with their lives is the least of your concern. If a Somali man/woman wants to be with a non-somali, that is absolutely none of your concern nor does that person owe you anything because you happen to share an ethnicity. They are not indebted to you for any cause or reason or any sort of ethnic loyalty to stick to their own kind. All you can control, is your actions.
You have assimilated to some degree yourself, you speak the language, you wear the clothes, you greet people in the American custom....genocide hasn't happened yet lol.
