The Sayid & the Darawish fought against the British, Italian and Ehtiopian forces. Godane & Alshabab are fighting the Somali government and people.

Really and truly, Ina Cabdule Xassan was hated during his time by Somalis the same way Godane is hated today. Reasons are obvious. Clan rivalry and it eroded the nomadic culture that Somalis lived and thrived on. Half a century later the Mullahs history was revived and somehow fashioned into a patriotic and popular national movement. There is some resemblance between the dervishes and HSM. They adhere to the same beliefs (people often say the Mullah was a sufi but this isn't really true, he was just a student of a dariqah but never inclined to any of their teachings and hence why many of the rival duruq labelled him a heretic and extremist). Both movements however, were born in similar but slightly different context. In the 1900s, there was no Somali regime, it was colonial power and the Somali nomads all in one boat. Today it is a national Somali govt, and a divided country.

Back then, one of the most effective way of demonizing someone was accusing him of cannibalism. The Sayid and his men were accused of such. Today, the most effective way is to accuse someone of terrorism.

Like said above Sayyid's main struggle was against foreign invaders. Godane and his troop are run and financed by foreigners who kill everyone including themselves.

Sayyid = freedom fighter

Godane = the perfect definition of a terrorist.

I doubt it but the 2 movements are identical

Alshabaab

Takfiri Jihadist
Fight the unbelievers till they submit and Kill also their supporters if they are Muslims
Fight the Foreign Invaders Uganda Kenya Ethiopia Djibouti Nigeria Siere leone sponsored by the west
Alshabaab God father and spiritual leader was Osama Bin laden and now its the Egyptian Ayman Al zawihiri
You are either with Alshabaab or you are an infidel.
We accept foreign Jihadist we make no distinction between the Muslims
Alshabaab wants to establish an islamic state and enforce Sharia law.
The leader of Alshabaab loves Poetry and takes orders from tora bora.
Alshabaab members are only taught Surah al Anfal Surah Tauba and parts of Surah Baqara.
Once you join Alshabaab u cant leave the movement or you die.

The dervishes

Takfiri Jihadist
Fight the unbelievers till they submit and kill also their supporters if they are Muslims, we make no distinction between Muslims and Non Muslims
Fighting the British the Italians the Abyssinians and their supporters.
The dervishes their god father was Muhammad ibn salah the Arab Sheikh he was their top leader
You are either Darawiish al Saalixi or you are a Kafir and we have the right to take your livestock
We accept Foreign Jihadist , there were significant sunusi sudani Fighters in the dervish movement
Dervish state already enforced sharia in the areas they ruled
The leader of the Dervishes loved poetry and he used to take orders from the Arab Bedouins in Arabia
The dervish leaders used to taught their followers only the Jihad verses of the Quran
Once you try to leave the dervishes u are either Killed or your family members are poisoned and killed

I think Khalid Ali clearly points out the similarities. AS is just a modern, more powerful version of its predecessor.

There is no question Sayidka was the very first warlord in Somalia. The guy used to rob camels from other disorganised clans.
