Somalia should use alternatives to petroleum and gas!

Postby InoCabdi » Tue Oct 22, 2013 10:20 pm

The oil decline is practically here. Oil prices have shot up from before. Prepare yourselves for a crazy ride in the nest 20+ years.

Somali should store the oil resources and only use it after 40-50 years. Thats around when saudi arabia's oil finishes. Somalia can then use the oil for exporting when the worlds oil supply finishes or declines significantly.

Since somalia is fresh, we can start green, and not become completely dependent on fossil fuels.

Fuel for transport

There are numerous alternative fuels for transport. Methanol, ethanol, algae, hydrogen and electricity are alternatives. The most efficient is algae. It produces around 88% less greenhouse gases and produces more energy.
Hydrogen is alo very efficient. It's in abundant supply, and doesnt include combustion. However the downside is that it's hard to store, as it has very low density. Some say that its the most efficient, but i dont think so.
Methanol is also classed as the most efficient fuel.

For natural gas, ethanol can be used as a replacement.

One dangerous thing is that governments could use tar sands much more. Tar sands are more dangerous than CO2.

The world's oil demand is increasing, and oil reserves are depleting. The worlds needs to start now to look for alternatives, so we are prepared for the decline.

Agree 100%. You've pretty much summed up what I've been saying for ages. Somalia shouldn't touch it's natural resources and should invest heavily in hydrogen fuel technology as well as fusion power stations. We have Uranium supplies to last us for centuries, all we need is the expertise to help build nuclear power stations. Biofuel is nice but not a long term solution, Hydrogen is the future and Somalia should invest in it like crazy, get ahead of the curve. But with Somalia's lack of infrastructure and skilled/technical population it will be virtually impossible.

Yep. Otherwise somalia will be like the rest of the world. Brazil is already ahead of everyone and is using ethanol fuel from sugarcane. Ethanol is a drinkable alchohol that can be used as a fuel. But they put some gasoline in the ethanol to make it undrinkable.

Somalia needs to do that . We are starting from scratch, so we have and advantage. Its not like other countries, where they have to change.

Somalis in the diaspora who are skilled need to help somalia rebuild.
