Soomaali iyo Ingiriis ku ciyaar

Postby zingii » Thu Nov 14, 2013 8:44 am

The term Huudheey is used for second hand clothes or used clothes and it sounds alot like "who died" as in who owned them before passing away.

The term Watellbaruuf is used for inexpensize sandals made from tires and it souds alot like "water proof" as in they will take you the distance.

Share the ones you know ya'll.

I noticed before that most English loan words in Somali seem to do with food. I think some of the ones previously mentioned here aren't actually right, but here's two more anyways: raashiin from ration/rations (raashiin means meal in Somali) and tarmuus from thermos.
