If you get rid of the way it is consumed and you refine it into a high potent drug that hits you quick, then you make it go underground. Instead of the "qarami" culture we have, it will be akin to cocaine, ectasy, which are consumed by mostly young party culture kids. To somalis it is a social drug, where the main component of the drug is sitting down and socializing for hours in a languid state. And unlike the other drugs, there isn't a lot of sex involved, even in mixed gender settings. This way we haven't destroyed a lot of our social customs, and we have managed to incorporate it into main society. The only reason it is rife and debilitating is because of our lack of economy which would push it to weekends and unemployed.

Why juice and not Miraa tea? I've noticed khaat chewers drink a lot of tea during their barjo sessions.
