The main Southern towns with historic means to it with friendly foreign influence such as Omanis, Persians, Yemenis, Swahilis etc. What so strategic about these southern Somali towns that made friendly foreigners live and make business there? I know Ajuuran sultante rule reached these places. Interestingly these towns are either in the coast or have river going through it.

Towns like:

Mogadishu

Luuq

Baraawe

Baardheere

Marka


If anybody has any interesting historic documents about these towns please share it.

This book talks about Somalis as far back as the 1100's (the Hawiya) and refers to them as "black berbers" there is also the suggestion that when the Greeks used the same terminology (over a thousand years before that) they may have been referring to the same people. Turns out the Hawiya occupied the coast from Raas Xafun to Merka. I looked at the map do you know where Raas Xafun is? Very interesting stuff. There is also information on Dir and Darood in the book.

As for foreigners they had to come through coastal towns. In the south that's Mogadishu, Merka, Barawe that gives them access to the region for trade. Money always made the world go round

Luuq was established by ashraf sarman sharif hassans clan

Baardheere was established by a digil scholars called reer daafeed from daafeed/walaween in the north west of lower shabeele wich has borders with hiiraan and bakool

Buurhakabo was established by reer sheekh mumin the only reer xamar/banaadiri in bakool

Buur ukur in hiiraan borders was the ajuran capital, settled after that by reerow hassan
