That map is wrong, somalia almost entirely is semi desert some places are just worse than others. But for the most part geeljires can graze from the most arid regions which is ogadenia and northern somalia in the sahara desert they couldnt.

Northern Somalia in general is basically today semi-arid. However, in the past (say, 1000+ years ago), it was a lot greener than it is now.

One way we know this is from the wildlife that is depicted on ancient local rock art. Some of this fauna is no longer found in the area, while their natural habitat is fertile terrain.

So that modern forest in Somalia's northernmost tip is actually a relic of a distant, more lush yesteryear.

Your right however today Its to do with Climate change, over grazing and Somalis inability to keep up with the world via technology.

30 years ago the north used to get alot more rain and it was very predictable (xillaga) however today we get drought and cyclones in span of 3 years.....
Garowe used to be very green, the name Garowe is named after the trees that were in abundance in the region. However deforestation has crippled the north.
Also Over grazing has destroyed our land, before Somalis used to graze in one area and let the other regenerate kinda like crop rotation however due to the population boom, the land can't recover hence desertification looming today see north Woqooyi Galbeed and Hawd.

Somaliland and Puntland should bring in Israelis to help us conquer the problem they fixed 30 years ago. They're in Kenya/Xabasha nation now as well.

Remember lack of trees means less rain. Today the trees of Sool is being felled at a considerable rate. However Alhamdulillah there some of keyn there left, Puntland/Somaliland should together protect it.

starkast, another heartbreaking reality is the daallo mountain range they're jumping up and down about is also settled by darod. the harti side of sanaag (including daallo/ceel madow mountains) receive heavy rains which in return means puntland receives rain from from it's northern sanaag region.

take a flight from anywhere in puntland (sool, sanaag, cayn, mudug, bari and or nugaal) and go to jubbaland (another darod state) and we got the lush farms of gedo, jubada dhexe and forests of jubada hoose + jubba river. now the question is, can our fellow skywalker apart from togdheer, western sanaag and waqooyi galbeed have any other lands to access (excluding the shared hawd )?
