1914: The Shaping of the Modern Muslim World by Dr. Y. Qadhi

Postby STARKAST » Fri Jan 31, 2014 11:04 am

It has been a century since WWI this lectures depicts why and how the Ummah has fallen since then. A good lecture.
1914 marked the beginning of a series of catastrophic political and social changes that would lead to, amongst other things, the abolishment of the Islamic Caliphate and the division of Muslim lands into the modern countries of the Middle East that we are all familiar with.

Those who do not learn from the past are doomed to repeat it. Muslims Must learn the bitter realities that took place one hundred years ago, from the deceit and false promises of European powers, to the betrayals and political intrigues by local Muslim leaders (some of whose descendants continue to rule in that region to this day).

In this highly provocative and well-researched lecture, Shaykh Dr. Yasir Qadhi enlightens us regarding the major events that set the stage for the modern Muslim world. You'll be enthralled - we guarantee it! Watch and then SHARE with others.

People blame the west for the office of Khalifa being dissolved, but the west deliberately chose not to dissolve the office of Khalifa after the first world war, and actually had a huge lobby group of Indian Muslims who successfully lobbied Britain to protect the Islamic office of Khalifa. It was the nationalist Turks under Kemal Ataturk who dissolved the Khalifa by edict in 1924.

Blaming the west overlooks the fact that after Ataturk dissolved the office of Khalifa, the Muslim rulers of Islamic lands (and there were still many in that time who were independent from western dominion) refused to unite behind a successor Khalifa. When Ḥusayn bin ‘Alī, the Sharif of Mecca, declared himself to be Khalifa after Ataturk dissolved the office, rather than the Islamic rulers uniting behind him in a strong state, all the Islamic rulers refused to acknowledge him, and the Saudis invaded and annexed his Kingdom of Hijaz. The Saudis made no effort at all to establish themselves as Khalifa, and Arab Nationalism would take over in Arab lands, pushing the issue of the Khalifa out of the picture for ever after.

The Hashemis ruled Transjordan, Iraq and Hijaz. If the Socialists and Ba'athists and Wahhabis had worked with the Hashemis to keep a united front and unite the lands as the European mandates ended, there could have been one united Khalifa state from Morocco to the Euphrates, since Colonialism would eventually collapse anyways they just needed to wait it out. The issue is that islamic unity in that era was a bad joke, nationalism and power and weird social experiments were what people wanted in that era.

Arabs are to blame for the ending of othman, because of the jealousy they decided to ask the west to get rid of the empire. This resulted in the west cheating the arabs, which is why palastine is in the situation it is in today. The occupation of palastine is caused by their forefathers.

The Palestinians were not Khaleeji Arabs or Turks, so the powerful who carved up the post-WW1 world did not really care about their fate, and sold their lands without a second thought in exchange for concessions elsewhere. You just need to look at how Palestinians are treated today in Jordan, Iraq and Kuwait etc to see how other Arabs have always viewed the Palestinians. They have been one of the most screwed over people in the 20th and 21st centuries, and that's saying something, there's some tough competition in that category.
