Reversed roles (serious trouble for somali families)

Postby muslim-man » Sat Oct 15, 2005 11:54 am

Culturally and religiously, the somali woman has been accorded special rights and previledges. They are entitled to dowry and home provided solely for her by her husband. In our culture, the man is expected to cloth, feed and educate the children not the state. welfare benefits have replaced these entitlements. this has led to somali women not allowing somali men to be responsible men. some women go to the ridiculous extent of finacing the wedding, buying the beds and everything (the single mother syndrome as they call in the europe)

Islmaically and traditionally A man who cannot solely provide for the family should have nothing to do with marriage. wifes sharing the expenses of running a home has never been entertained. women were given free choices to support or not to support her her husband, she had nothing to do with putting food on the table since thats her husbands responsibility.

Now everything seemed to have changed. Men are not allowing themselves to be responsible men and women are not allowed to play their proper roles as wifes and mothers. instead a reversal of roles has occured whereby women become bread winners while the men become house keepers. women see their newly found indepence asa source of great pride and mr biko is in trouble for if he says no to his house keeping and baby feeding job, his marduf is out of the window or even worse he might be ordered to pack his belongings in a black binbag and hit the road jack ass..

what is your take on this nightmare folks??

what is the solution ragyohow??

what has future instore for wounded somali man pride?

How about the children?? how does this reversed roles effect them?? are somali parents equiping their children for the future?? what is basis of the socialization that we give our children???

your comments palizzzzzz???

So it's the women't fault that some men are lazy bums?...It's not as a big of an epidimec as you may think. Believe or not Somali people or men were known to be lazy to begin with, couple that with welfare phenomena, honestly what did you expect would happen?

Qali, am glad you acknowledge there is some serious problems that need to be adressed and undressed ee maxaa kula tala ah adigu???

demure,

read my words again, nowhere in that post have i said women are to blame for this mess. Instaed i mentioned what i see on a daily occurance in the house i live, my somali neighbours houses and everywhere else i go where somalis inhabit. somali men laziness may date all the way back home but at least everyone knew exacly what roles to play and where they fitted in family matters. ceebey aheed in nin naag wax kasugo even though i do concede when my dad was out of errands or laid off, mum used to feed the family. hwoever it didn't give her extra authority over him. she used to accord him the same respect irrespective of wether he was the one putting food on the table or not. can that be said of the current queens (or should i call them kings) of the somali houses?

This is a grave matter ppl, it needs serious measures. think of some solutions men, your future is at stake here. soon house boyees will be the permanent role for men. lets try to bring back the much lost culture back to the family!!!

biiq,

believe you me sxb, am not lion-heart. if you have unsettled business with the dude, please observe abit of patience and wait till he comes back and settle it appropriately. tells us what you feel about this reversed roles sxb?

lol at the hour is here Laughing Yes you're right the hour is near but it wont happen in our lifetime (allahu waclam). and since it wont happen while i am a life, i want my former status as the head of the family be brought back quickly. wether women like or not is their problem Razz .

I do believe alot can be done to reverse this downward spiral. lets wait for others to have their say.

I think this problem has become an epidemic in Europe where the welfare system has literally Paralized Somalis and reduced them into walking zombies. Somali men in the U.S.A call the shots and are doing much better.
