There is only one reason for that woman's plight and it's greed and a constant refugee mentality. It's the same greed that carries young men and women with good prospects and wealthy families across the Libyan desert or the Red Sea, where they are caged, drown, starve or await a fate much worse than death. It's the same greed and refugee mentality that makes Somali businessmen stay in shitty South African townships despite the murders and lootings perpetrated by the savage natives. The truth is no Somali has reason to leave Somalia except greed. It's the reason the lucky few that make it to the west alive and whole are immediately disillusioned but continue to stay anyway. Somalia is safer and better for these people, but they would rather live in destitution and humiliation in Yemen or get raped in Libya for 1 reason - greed. I've said this before and I'll say it again; a Somali would rather be beaten and humiliated in someone else's country than life a peaceful dignified life in Somalia. It's the truth, I'm not going to sugar-coat it.

OK, so why is unemployment much much higher among Somalis than, say, native mainland Europeans? Or better yet, why is unemployment greatly higher among Somalis than even other refugees and ethnic minorities? These welfare funds are available to all of them and the language barriers are present for all migrants/refugees. Simple, Somalis lack the moral compass, pride and initiative that these other people have. What other explanation is there?

The only legitimate refugees are those from the first 2-3 years of the civil war, anyone coming after that time is leaving on their own selfish accord looking for the "better life" chasing the "american dream" in every shit hole corner of the world, anywhere but Somalia they will go.

Liquid, why don't you go back to Hargeisa then or are you an exception to this extremely silly idea of yours.

I find it so funny how you're using "I work and go to unviersity" as an excuse to define yourself, urm, unless you haven't figured, that's what the people that tahrib want to do. They want to "work and go to university" but you think only you're entitled to that burden as you make out. LOL.

You've never actually read nor understood my points. My being in the west doesn't negate my point and actually helped me gain insight into the true plight of the somali refugee. Your argument of "you live in qurbaha" is a cop out and doesn't hold water when I had no choice. My family left Somalia long before the war due to Siad barre's threats and persecution of my relatives. I wouldn't have written what I did if I never planned to go back home. But if you're asking me to up and leave for somalia in the middle of my studies just to prove a point to you, then you're not very bright.

They can just leave their Hargeisa/Mogadishu universities and do a tahriib because there's no importance connected to their education. Unlike you, they won't have a world recognized certificate of higher education. I'm aware you won't leave but you should be able to recognize the fact that you not leaving immediately signals that what you're not leaving is too important to leave. They can drop everything to come to the west, you can't drop everything to go back to where you're from. Figure it out.

They can drop everything because the choose to. I don't want to waste my parents' money and time by bouncing off halfway through my studies. That makes no sense. Me not leaving is a sign of respect for my parents' hustle and to not disappoint them. I could leave tonight for Hargeisa and lead a comfortable life. Also Hargeisa University is not Oxford, but it's still an institution of learning. A Hargeisa degree won't be useful in New York, but neither will a degree from Seoul university or the University of Bogota. Also you still don't understand what I said in my earlier posts, these people aren't pursuing an education (or at least most aren't). They're pursuing free housing, benefits/dole money, child-support tax credit etc. Even you can't deny that. Seriously, didn't you say that you live in the UK?

Liquid, I think we see eye to eye on this issue with a slight difference; You describe the situation and I attempt to understand the underlying reasons. Unemployment is high among somalis because of several reasons as I mentioned previously (institutional discriminations, welfare provisions, language barriers, lack of skills etc). These are the main reasons. There are dozens of studies on somalis and unemployment. The lack of Moral compass, pride etc could be true but they still remain anecdotal evidence.

Do not get me wrong saaxib. I share your frustration and I have witnessed how welfare provisions have made our community lag. But, let us differentiate between facts and feelings.

Not sure about Europe but at States side ,A guy with 4+ kids might be making over $5k a month, salary most collage grads can't even earn and yet he and his wife are identified as low-income. Waxaas ma institutional discrimination ba? Please we have enough corrupted souls, don't call for revolution of thought Etc while excusing the failures of those you want change to come to. It's so bad some even believe living off welfare under false pretext isn't haram.

And you have a point it isn't always about welfare either, the average Somali youth lack proper job interviewing skills, interpersonal and communication skills to work with non Somali audiences. The lack of those will significantly impact success in job market. They simply don't take the time to develop or improve in those areas....hence liquid's point about lack of initiative, morals etc
